On October 29th, Phillip Capital hosted our seventh annual Trading Asia Symposium at the W Hotel – City Center.  This year’s theme was “We, the World,” and the event focused on where trading opportunities can be found among the current environment of polarized worldviews and economic uncertainty.  Dr. Richard Sandor of the American Financial Exchange was the featured speaker, and our panels included representatives from six major Asia-focused exchanges (SGX, HKEX, JPX, KRX, NSE, and TAIFEX) as well as Avelacom, a connectivity and IT infrastructure provider currently expanding operations in Asia.  Over 175 people joined us for the day’s activities.

Co-CEO Lynette Lim once again surprised and energized the crowd with two group exercises – a round of tug-of-war and a dramatization of the Chicago Teachers’ Union demonstrations that were occurring nearby.  Lynette built on these to discuss the conflicts currently tugging at us in our daily lives and the larger world and proposed an antidote: do the opposite; keep still.

Dr. Richard Sandor spoke about his experience creating the American Financial Exchange and its AMERIBOR interest rate benchmark, as well as how they relate to opportunities in Asia.  Vineet Bhanagar, CEO of PhillipCapital India, gave an overview of the growing Asian economy, particularly the growth and volume of the Asian financial markets.
