HKEX: China A-Shares Proving Resilient to Global Market Turmoil

Chinese stocks have been relatively resilient amid the coronavirus turmoil. The CSI 300 Index dropped around 10% in the first quarter of 2020, milder than the 18% decline in the MSCI Asia ex Japan Index and the 19% drop in the S&P 500 Index over the same period. International investors are taking advantage of the Stock Connect scheme – the China A-shares access channel routed through Hong Kong, with nine of the top ten daily turnover in the Stock Connect Northbound channel recorded in the first quarter of the year.
